GORHAM, Maine - Four different players scored as the 6/10th-ranked St. Joseph's College (Maine) Monks defeated the University of Southern Maine Huskies 4-0 in a non-conference men's soccer game Tuesday night at Hannaford Field.
With the win, the nationally-ranked Monks continue their undefeated season at 14-0. Southern Maine falls to 2-11-1 with the loss.
Doing a bulk of its scoring off of set pieces, SJC went up 1-0 in the 11th minute when junior Noah Robinson (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketchum) turned on a service from classmate Cody Elliott (Gorham, Maine). Robinson's goal stood through the first half, before the Monks sealed the game with three additional goals in the second.
Junior Jackson Taylor (Gorham, Maine) also benefitted from an Elliot assist across the box in the 59th minute before classmate Mitchell Duncan (Sanford, Maine) made it 3-0 for the Monks in the 67th. Freshman Kuma Onyejose (East Greenwich, R.I./Bishop Hendricken) scored the final goal in the 86th completing the assist from classmate Austin Ward (North Andover, Mass.) on a through ball.
Southern Maine senior goalkeeper Charlie Mull (Portland, Maine/Cheverus) made three saves in the loss. Senior Blake Mullen (Manchester, Conn.) earned the win for SJC making one save in 85:34. Sophomore David Waldbridge (Hampden, Mass./Minnechaug Regional) played the final 4;26 and did not make a save.
Southern Maine hosts Eastern Connecticut State in a Little East Conference game on Saturday (1:00 p.m.)
