STANDISH, Maine – A goal and an assist from Austin Ward highlighted a three-goal effort from the St. Joseph's College (Maine) Monks in a 3-0 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a non-conference men's soccer win Monday night at the SJC Athletic Complex.
Southern Maine remains winless with the loss at 0-4-1. St. Joseph's remained unbeaten at 4-0-1.
Ward assisted on Jackson Taylor's game-winning goal in the 38th minute. Up 1-0 late in the first, SJC held its goal-advantage through the half and doubled its advantage on a Noah Robinson goal in the 51st minute. Ward completed the scoring for the Monks in the 78th minute for the 3-0 final.
SJC outshot the Huskies 14-3 in the game, while neither team registered a corner kick. Monk goalkeeper David Walbridge earned the shutout making one save. USM sophomore Cameron Atherton turned back five shots in the loss.
Southern Maine remains on the road for its next contest and travels to Thomas College on Wednesday (7:00 pm) for a non-conference game.
