Southern Maine Blanks Thomas College 9-0
GORHAM, Maine  –  Junior Adam Whitman (New Castle, N.H./Portsmouth) and freshman Scott Gagne (Lewiston, Maine) led the way from the top of the order as the University of Southern Maine Huskies men's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 win over the Thomas College Terriers in a non-conference match Wednesday afternoon in Gorham, Maine. 

         With its second straight win, Southern Maine improves to 3-1.  Thomas falls to 2-1 with the loss.

         Whitman and Gagne combined at first doubles for the first of three 8-1 victories for the Huskies defeating senior Tom Bird (Lee, Maine/Lee Academy) and freshman Erin Morin (Lewiston, Maine).  Sophomore Corey Dyke (Monmouth, Maine/Monmouth Academy) and freshman Zac Cary (Buxton, Maine/Bonny Eagle) and freshman Thaddeus St. John (Weld, Maine/Mt. Blue and junior Caleb Jones (Wiscasset, Maine) earned wins at second and third doubles respectively.

         In singles action, Southern Maine continued to cruise claiming all six available points.  Whitman defeated Morin 6-3, 6-0 at first singles.  Gagne downed freshman Malcolm Neville (Foxboro, Mass./Foxborough) 6-2, 6-0 at second singles.

         Southern Maine hosts Colby-Sawyer College on Friday (4:00 p.m.) in a non-conference match.  Thomas travels to Castleton State on Friday (4:00 p.m.).
