Southern Maine Takes Down Thomas 7-2

WATERVILLE, Maine  – Junior Adam Whitman (New Castle, N.H./Portsmouth) and sophomore Christopher G. Ross (Somerset, Mass.) each earned key victories at the top of the Huskies line up to lead the University of Southern Maine men's tennis team to earn a 7-2 win over the Thomas College Terriers Tuesday afternoon in Waterville, Maine.

         Winners of four straight matches, Southern Maine improves to 5-1 on the season.  Suffering its second consecutive loss, Thomas falls to 2-4.

         Whitman and Ross combined for an 8-4 win at first doubles as the Huskies grabbed two of the three doubles points to hold a 2-1 lead heading into singles action.  Whitman defeated Terrier freshman Eric Morin (Lewiston, Maine) 6-2, 7-5 at first singles, while Ross downed freshman Malcolm Neville (Foxboro, Mass.) 6-1, 6-3. The Huskies won five out of the six singles matches en route to the victory.

         Southern Maine hosts Western Connecticut State in its first Little East Conference match of the season on Saturday (12:00 p.m.).  Thomas travels to Castleton State on Friday (4:00 p.m.).
