Beacons Halt Huskies 6-3
BOSTON  – The UMass Boston Beacons won two out of the three doubles points and went on to earn a 6-3 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a Little East Conference tennis match Sunday afternoon in Boston.

         The loss snaps a five-match win streak for Southern Maine and drops its record to 6-2 overall and evens out its conference record at 1-1.  UMass Boston earns its third straight win and its second consecutive Little East Conference win to improve to 7-3 overall and 2-1 in the conference.

         Freshman David Hernandez (Bogota, Colombia/An Myer) and sophomore Charles Lai (Boston, Mass./Boston College High School) earned an 8-1 win over junior Adam Whitman (New Castle, N.H./Portsmouth) and freshman Scott Gagne (Lewiston, Maine) at first doubles. 

         Alex Loyer (Chelmsford, Mass.) and sophomore Seth Shavers (Boston, Mass./Academy of the Pacific Rim) took an 8-6 victory at second doubles over the USM tandem of senior Zach Caron (North Conway, N.H./Kennett) and sophomore Christopher G. Ross (Somerset, Mass.) 8-6.

         The Beacons won the first through fourth singles matches to secure the victory.  Southern Maine's Ross defeated Beacon sophomore Lyle Analetto (Belmont, Mass.) 6-3, 6-4 at fourth doubles.  Freshman Thaddeus St. John (Weld, Maine/Mt. Blue) won at sixth singles 2-6, 6-2, 10-8.

         Southern Maine travels to Bridgewater State for a Little East Conference match on Tuesday (3:30 p.m.).  UMass Boston hosts Salem State on Tuesday (3:00 p.m.).
