BRIDGEWATER, Mass.  – Sophomore Cody Farrell (Scituate, Mass.) and junior Nicholas Desisto (Uxbridge, Mass.) took and 8-3 victory at third doubles to score the first point of the match and lead the Bridgewater State University Bears to a hard-fought 5-4 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a Little East Conference men's tennis match Tuesday afternoon at Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts in Bridgewater, Mass.

The loss is the second straight for the Huskies who fall to 6-3 overall and 1-2 in the Little East Conference.  Bridgewater State erases a two-game slide with the win over the Huskies and improves to 7-3 and 3-1 in the LEC.

Led by Farrell and Desisto, the Bears captured two of three doubles points to start the match with a 2-1 lead.  Husky junior Adam Whitman (New Castle, N.H./Portsmouth) and freshman Scott Gagne (Lewiston, Maine) registered the Huskies' lone point of the doubles portion of the match with a narrow 9-7 victory at first doubles.

In singles action, Gotlib sealed the victory for Bridgewater State with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 win over USM sophomore Christopher G. Ross (Somerset, Mass.) in fourth singles.  A USM win by sophomore Corey Dyke (Monmouth, Maine/Monmouth Academy) at sixth singles, tied the score up at 2-2 early on, but the Bears bounced back to grab victories at second, first and fourth singles to seal the win.

Dyke defeated Desisto 6-2, 6-2, while freshman Thaddeus St. John (Weld, Maine/Mt. Blue) and Gagne earned wins at fifth and third singles respectively.

Southern Maine hosts UMass Dartmouth on Saturday (12:00 p.m.) in a Little East Conference match.  Bridgewater State hosts Clark University (Mass.) on Wednesday (3:30 p.m.) in a non-conference match.
