PORTLAND, Maine – The Rhode Island College Anchormen men's tennis team won all three of the doubles points and went on to sweep the six singles points to claim a 9-0 Little East Conference win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies, Saturday afternoon at the Deering HS Tennis Courts in Portland, Maine.
The win is the second straight for the Anchormen who improve to 5-1 overall and 1-0 in Little East Conference play. Southern Maine drops to 1-2 with the loss, and 0-1 in LEC action.
The RIC tandem of Matt Gambardella and Ethan Hoy earned an 8-0 win at third singles to snag the first point of the match for the Anchormen, and then rolled from there for the conference win. Southern Maine senior captain Chase Orava (Sagamore Beach, Mass.) put up a good fight over RIC's Taggart at second singles, falling 7-5, 6-1.
Southern Maine returns to action on Thursday (4:00 pm) at non-conference opponent Thomas College.
