FALMOUTH, Maine – Junior Evan Zuchowski (Dover, N.H.) put in a strong effort at sixth singles but ultimately fell 6-4, 6-4 to Western Connecticut sophomore Shivam Patel (Norwalk, Conn.) as the University of Southern Maine Huskies dropped a 9-0 decision to the Western Connecticut State University Colonials in a Little East Conference men's tennis match Saturday afternoon. Due to weather conditions the match was played at the Falmouth Fitness and Tennis Club.
With the loss, Southern Maine is now 1-4 overall, and 0-2 in Little East Conference action. Western Connecticut picks up its first win of the season and is now 1-6 overall, and 1-3 in the LEC.
The Colonials went ahead 3-0 after the doubles points had played out and then swept the singles matches for the 9-0 victory. WestConn senior Jeffrey Hensley (Naugatuck, Conn.) picked up a win at fifth single in a hard-won contest over Husky sophomore Carrys Ngoy (DRC, Congo/Lewiston) 7-5, 6-2.
Southern Maine is back in action on Sunday (12:00 pm) at Nichols for a non-conference match.
