Bridgewater State Bests Southern Maine 7-2


BRIDGEWATER, Mass.  – Senior Chase Orava (Sagamore Beach, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth Regional) and junior Evan Zuchowski (Dover, N.H.) each picked up singles wins but it wasn't enough as the University of Southern Maine Huskies' men's tennis team dropped a 7-2 decision to the Bridgewater State University Bears Tuesday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts. 

            With the loss, Southern Maine is now 1-5 overall, and 0-3 in the Little East Conference. Bridgewater State picked up its first win of the season and is now 1-3 overall, and 1-3 in the conference. 

            Orava won in a super tie-breaker at second singles 3-6, 6-3 (10-7) defeating BSU's Michael Scollins.  Zuchowski downed Ross Bloomfield 6-3, 6-2 at sixth singles. Orava and double partner sophomore Matt Henderson (Newburyport, Mass.) dropped a close set at first doubles, falling 9-7 to the Bears' duo of Justin Haley and Zachary Mutti.  

            Southern Maine remains on the road for its next contest and will face UMass Boston on Saturday (1:00 p.m.).
