BOSTON – Guang Huang and Ray Platteel earned an 8-3 win over Southern Maine senior Chase Orava (Sagamore Beach, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth Regional) and sophomore Matt Henderson (Newburyport, Mass.) at first doubles to highlight an 9-0 win for the UMass Boston Beacons over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a Little East Conference men's tennis match Saturday afternoon at the BC High Tennis Courts.
With the loss, Southern Maine is now 1-6 overall, and 0-4 in Little East Conference action. UMass Boston remains undefeated in the Little East Conference at 5-0 and secures the regular season title. The Beacons are 8-5 overall.
The Beacons swept all three doubles points and then went on to claim the six available singles points for the win. USM junior Kevin Dowling (Stamford, Vt./McCann Technical) battled UMB's Tin Tran at fourth singles, but fell 6-2, 6-1.
Southern Maine travels to Salem State on Tuesday (3:30 p.m.).
