Salem State Slips Past Southern Maine 9-0


SALEM, Mass.  – The Salem State University Vikings swept all nine points en route to a 9-0 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a Little East Conference men's tennis match Tuesday afternoon at the Central Campus Courts. 

            With the loss, Southern Maine is now 1-7 overall, and 0-5 in Little East Conference action. Salem State wins its second straight and improves to 10-4 overall and 4-1 in the LEC. 

            Beginning with an 8-0 win at first doubles for Salem State's Andrew Muttiah and John Didonato the Vikings took the doubles points in order. Muttiah and Didonato defeated the USM tandem of sophomore Matt Henderson (Newburyport, Mass.) and senior Chase Oravao (Sagamore  Beach, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth Regional).  In singles action, Husky junior Kevin Dowling (Stamford, Vt./McCann Technical) had the best match of the day falling 6-1, 6-2 at sixth singles to Salem State's Noah Hodgkins.  

            Southern Maine hosts its regular season finale on Saturday (1:00 p.m.).  The Huskies will take on UMass Dartmouth.
