UMass Dartmouth Defeats Southern Maine 8-1
PORTLAND, Maine – Junior Kevin Dowling (Stamford, Conn./McCann Technical) battled to a 6-1, 6-4 win at sixth singles to highlight the University of Southern Maine Huskies in an 8-1 loss to the UMass Dartmouth Corsairs in the Huskies' 2018 season finale Saturday afternoon at the Portland Racket and Fitness Club. The match was moved to the indoor facility due to poor playing surfaces at Gorham High School following inclement weather.
With the loss, Southern Maine concludes its 2018 season with a record of 1-8 overall and 0-6 in the Little East Conference. UMass Dartmouth is 4-2 in the Little East and 8-9 overall following its win over Southern Maine. The Corsairs will compete in the 2018 LEC tournament as the third seed.
UMD captured all three of the doubles points, and then went on to win five of six singles points for the 8-1 victory over Southern Maine.
USM senior Chase Orava (Sagamore Beach, Mass.) was honored prior to the start of the match as the Huskies' lone senior student-athete.
