BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University Bears swept the doubles points and went on to claim a 7-2 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a Little East Conference men's tennis match Sunday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.
With a 3-0 lead, BSU won four of the six singles flights to claim a season-opening win and stand at 1-0 overall and 1-0 in the LEC. USM drops to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
Southern Maine sophomore Adam Papayoanou (Valencia, Calif.) and junior Kyle Morin (Lewiston, Maine) picked up the Huskies' points in singles action. Papayoanou won the first singles point battling back from a set down to earn a hard-won 4-6, 6-3, 10-4 decision. In the final match of the day, Morin won 6-4, 6-4 in the fifth singles slot.
Southern Maine remains on the road and plays again on Saturday (1:00 p.m.) at UMass Boston for a LEC tilt with the Beacons.
