Huskies at Bates for Quad Meet Saturday Night
GORHAM, Maine -- The Little East Conference announced it weekly honors for men's track and field on Monday, selecting University of Southern Maine freshman Zach Hoyle (Sidney, Maine/Messalonskee) as the Rookie Track Athlete of the Week and the Huskies' 4 x 400-meter relay as the Relay of the Week.
The individual weekly honor was the second of the season for Hoyle who was previously named the Rookie Track Athlete of the Week on January 15. USM has received the Relay of the Week honor four times this winter, including the last three weeks.
Competing at the John Thomas Terrier Classic held at Boston University, Hoyle ran a career best time of 1 minute, 54.41 seconds in the 800 meters. Hoyle's time was 26th quickest among the 126 competitors overall, and third among NCAA Division III athletes in the field. He is now ranked seventh on the Division III New England region performance list. In addition to his individual event, Hoyle ran a 50.4 split as the third leg of the relay.
The relay foursome of sophomore Donivyn Harms (Westbrook, Maine/Rochelle (Ill.) Township), junior Jared Marshall (Gloucester, Mass.), Hoyle and junior Hany Ramadan (Portland, Maine/Deering) earned the nod as the Relay of the Week after posting a season-best time of 3:18.76, good for fifth place among the 33 teams taking time. The Huskies' time moved them to third in the region, and seventh nationally.
The Huskies will travel to Bates College this Saturday night (6:00 p.m.) for a Quad meet with Bates, Bowdoin College and Colby College.
