Competition Resumes Saturday Morning
MIDDLEBURY, Vt. -- University of Southern Maine junior C.J. Moody (Old Town, Maine) leads the heptathlon after the first day of competition at the 2018 New England Division III Men's Indoor Track and Field Championships being held at Middlebury College.
After the first four events that comprise the men's heptathlon (seven events), Moody has compiled 2,651 points to lead the field of 12 competitors. Junior Tommy Riley of Williams College is in second place with 2,620 points, and Brandeis University sophomore Jack Allan is in third with 2600.
Moody opened the competition posting the quickest time in the 60-meter dash (7.18 seconds) to score 819 points and had the best mark in the long jump (6.41 meters/21-0 ½) for another 677 points to take the early lead.
Riley and Allan closed the gap in the shot put as Moody placed seventh (10.71 meters/35-1 ¾) for 528 points. In the final event of the first day, the high jump, Moody, Riley and Allan all posted an identical height (1.80 meters/5-10 ¾) for 627 points.
Competition resumes tomorrow morning with the 60-meter hurdles. The pole vault follows, and the heptathlon concludes with the 1,000-meter run.
