Even, Harmon, Rich and Vallo Named Men's Outdoor Track & Field Captains
GORHAM, Maine  –  Seniors Tim Even (Stoneham, Maine/Fryeburg Academy), Matt Harmon (Auburn, Maine/Edward Little), John Vallo (Beacon, N.Y./Beacon) and junior Codey Rich (Wells, Maine) have been named co-captains for the 2012 University of Southern Maine Huskies men's outdoor track and field team.  The announcement was made by Southern Maine head coach Scott Hutchinson, now in his seventh season with the Huskies.

         The Huskies begin their 2012 season as the defending Little East Conference champions and winners of the last four consecutive conference crowns (2011, 2010, 2009 and 2008).  All four captains are coming off of a successful 2011-12 indoor track and field season. 

         Even, Vallo and Harmon were all members of the Huskies' 2011, 2010 and 2009 Little East Conference Championship outdoor track and field teams, while Rich was a member of the Huskies' 2010 and 2009 championship squads.

         Harmon, who has been consistently rewriting USM record in throwing events throughout the indoor season, helped the Huskies to the 2011 title with a fourth place finish in the discus and a second place finish in the hammer throw. 

         In the 2011 championship Even delivered a pair of second place finishes, taking second in the 1500-meter and 800-meter run.  In the 800-meter run, Even crossed the finish line in 1:57.58 and in the 1500-meter run Even clocked a time of 3:57.04.

         In the 10000-meter run, Vallo helped the Huskies scoring eight points with a second place finish.  Vallo earned the second place spot with a time of 34:14.93. 

         Southern Maine travels to Tufts University for the Tufts Snowflake Classic on Saturday, March 31 (10:00 a.m.)
