Even Sets USM Record in the 1500 at New England Division III Championship

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.   – Senior Tim Even (Stoneham, Maine/Fryeburg Academy) placed fourth in the 1500 meter run with a personal best time of three minutes, 53.17 seconds en route to a new school record to highlight the University of Southern Maine Huskies men's outdoor track and field team at the 2012 New England Division III Championships hosted by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology this weekend in Cambridge, Mass. 

         As a team, the Huskies scored 6.33 points to placed 25th out of 27 competing institutions.  Host MIT won the team title with 113 points, followed by Williams College in second place with 97.50 points.  Bates College placed third with 91.50 points and Tufts University tallied 68 points for fourth place.  Bowdoin College rounded out the top five with 63 points. 

         Even's time of 3:53.17 bettered the previous USM record of 3:56.10 formerly held by Chris Hopkins.  Hopkins' former record of 3:56.10 stood for six season and was set on May 6, 2006 at Springfield University.  Even's fifth place finish scored four of the Huskies' six points.

         Senior John Vallo (Beacon, N.Y.) tallied two points for USM placing seventh in the 10000 meter run.  Vallo crossed the finish line in 31:36.01.

         Southern Maine competes at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association Championships beginning Friday (10:00 a.m.).
