USM 4 x 400 Relay Named LEC Relay of the Week
GORHAM, Maine -- The Little East Conference announced its first set of weekly awards for the 2018 men's outdoor track and field season Monday afternoon with the University of Southern Maine's 4 x 400-meter relay being selected as the Relay of the Week.
Competing at the Huskies' season-opening event, the annual Tufts University Snowflake Invitational, the USM foursome of sophomore Cam Labrie (Tamworth, N.H./Kennett), freshman Zach Hoyle (Sidney, Maine/Messalonskee), senior Justin Pierce (Standish, Maine/Mt. Ararat), and sophomore Donivyn Harms (Westbrook, Maine/Rochelle (Ill.) Township) posted a time of 3 minutes, 23.64 seconds to finish third in the event.
USM's time slots the quartet into the seventh spot in the latest New England Region rankings.
The Huskies posted five qualifying marks for the New England Division III Championships en route to an 11th-place finish among the 20 teams competing. Host Tufts University finished first scoring 153 points. WPI was in the runner-up spot with 119 points, followed by Bridgewater State University with 70, Wesleyan University with 56 and Westfield State University with 50. USM had a total of 25 points.
The Huskies hit the road on Saturday traveling to Springfield, Mass., to compete in the Yellow Jacket Invitational at American International College.
