GORHAM, Maine -- University of Southern Maine sophomore men's track and field standout Zach Hoyle (Sidney, Maine/Messalonskee) has been honored by the Little East Conference as this week's Track Athlete of the Week.  This is the second straight week that Hoyle has been honored by the LEC.

Competing at the 9th Annual Yellowjacket Invitational at A.I.C., Hoyle won the 800 meters by nearly four seconds posting a time of 1 minute, 54.12 seconds.  Hoyle's time qualifies him for the 800 at next month's New England Division III Championships.  Hoyle also ran a leg for the Huskies' 4 x 400-meter relay that placed sixth with its combined time of 3:29.61.

Two weeks into the outdoor season, Hoyle ranks third in New England in the 800 and 11th in the 1500 meters (3:59.98).  He has met the qualifying standard for the New England Division III meet in both events.  Hoyle's 800 time ranks 13th on the latest national Division III performance list.

The Huskies collected 53 points to finish sixth among 12 scoring teams.  Southern Connecticut State University took the top spot with 201 points followed by host AIC with 121.  Springfield College was third with 93 points, Worcester State University took fourth with 76 and Assumption  placed fifth with 60.

Southern Maine travels to Southern New Hampshire University (Manchester, N.H.) this Saturday for the Penmen Relays.
