Moody Picked as LEC Field Athlete of the Week
GORHAM, Maine -- The Little East Conference announced its weekly awards for men's track and field Monday afternoon with University of Southern Maine junior C.J. Moody (Old Town, Maine) among the honorees as the Field Athlete of the Week. The weekly award is the first of his career for Moody.
Competing in the decathlon at the Northeast Combined Events Challenge held at Southern Connecticut State University last Thursday and Friday (April 11-12), Moody finished fourth (top Division III competitor) among the 20 competitors with a score of 6,143 points. Moody became just the second USM athlete to crack the 6,000-point barrier in the decathlon, joining former two-time All-American James Spaulding on that list.
Among the six field events, Moody was second in the long jump with a mark of 6.56 meters (21-6¼) on day one, and he had personal bests in the discus with a throw of 32.38 meters (106-3) and pole vault clearing 4.15 meters (13-7¼) on day two. Moody's score moved him into eighth place on the latest TFRSS national Division III performance list, and first in the New England region.
The Huskies will travel to Bowdoin College this weekend for the annual Outdoor State Championships. The javelin will be contested Friday evening, with the remainder of the meet taking place on Saturday.
