Gailitis, Moody Earn Division III All-New England Honors
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- University of Southern Maine senior Logan Gailitis (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) and junior C.J. Moody (Old Town, Maine) earned Division III All-New England honors Friday during the first day of competition at the annual New England Division III Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships being held at Williams College.
Gailitis set the school record in the javelin for the third time this season with his mark of 54.67 meters (179-4) to finish fifth. Gailitis surpassed his previous record mark of 54.56 meters (179-0) set last week at the Little East Conference Outdoor Championships.
Competing in two individual events this week in preparation for a decathlon next weekend, Moody finished fifth in the long jump with a leap of 6.72 meters (22-0¾).
Also competing Friday was senior Trey Rogers (Auburn, Maine/Edward Little) who posted the 18th quickest time of 11.24 seconds in the 100-meter dash trials.
With the eight points scored by Gailitis and Moody, Southern Maine sits in ninth place among the 21 teams that have scored through the first five events. Perennial regional powerhouse MIT has the early lead with 478 points. Bates College is second with 24 points, followed by Tufts University with 22, Bridgewater State University with 15 and Rhode Island College with 11. Three teams are tied for sixth place with 10 points.
Competition will resume Saturday morning at 10 a.m.
