Nursing Major is the Third Men's Track & Field/Cross Country Athlete to Receive the Honor
GORHAM, Maine -- University of Southern Maine junior C.J. Moody (Old Town, Maine) was among the 12 honorees today when the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) released the 2018-19 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Men's Track & Field/Cross Country Team.
The Google Cloud Academic All-America® program separately recognizes outstanding student-athletes in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team (if applicable) Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in June.
Moody is the third member of the USM men's track and field/cross country program to receive CoSIDA Academic All-District honors. He joins Darryl Whitney (2003) and Justin Richardson (2010) as recipients.
A nursing major with a 3.866 cumulative grade point average, Moody competed last weekend in the decathlon at the NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships scoring a career-best 6,514 points to place 12th overall. During the 2018-19 indoor season, Moody received NCAA Division III All-America honors in the heptathlon by finishing fifth with a school record 5,004 points.
Three times during the combined indoor-outdoor season, Moody was selected as the Little East Conference Field Athlete of the Week. He earned All-LEC honors in the 110-meter hurdles, pole vault and long jump during the outdoor campaign, and 60-meter dash, long jump and 4 x 400-meter relay in the indoor season.
A multiple-time winner of USM's William B. Wise Scholar-Athlete Award and the Little East Conference Winter and Spring All-Academic teams, Moody has made Dean's List six times, and finished the 2019 spring semester with a 4.00 average.
