NEW GLOUCESTER, Maine -- Sophomore Cameron Meier (Bowdoin, Maine/Mt. Ararat) and rookie Yahya Nure (South Portland, Maine/Deering) earned top 10 finishes to highlight the University of Southern Maine men's cross country team's performance Saturday at the Bates College Super XC Shootout held at Pineland Farms.

The Super Shootout is a unique event scoring a team's top 10 finishers, double the normal five scoring runners.

Tufts University edged host Bates 146-153 for the top spot.  Southern Maine was third with 272 points.  Tufts, Bates and Southern Maine are ranked sixth, seventh and ninth in New England the latest USTFCCCA regional poll.

Meier led the Huskies with his seventh-place finish.  The second-year runner covered the eight-kilometer Pineland course (4.97 miles) in a time of 26 minutes, 57.5 seconds.  Meier's time was nearly 90 seconds faster than his time last year.  Nure was the next runner to cross the finish line with a time of 26:59.0.

Junior Nick Harriman (Lisbon, Maine) and sophomore Masho Gebremikael (Portland, Maine/Deering) finished in the top 20.  Harriman was 16th with his time of 27:24.2 and Gebremikael finished 18th in 27:28.2.

Sophomore Eagan Eldridge (Bowdoin, Maine/Mt. Ararat) was the Huskies fifth finisher placing 30th overall with a time of 28:40.9.  Harriman, Gebremikael and Eldridge all had significantly faster times over 2017.
