Meier Selected as the Little East Conference Runner of the Week
GORHAM, Maine -- The Little East Conference announced Monday afternoon that University of Southern Maine sophomore Cameron Meier (Bowdoin Maine/Mt. Ararat) has been named the men's cross country Runner of the Week for the week ending September 30.
The LEC weekly honor is the first of Meier's collegiate career. He is the second USM runner to receive an LEC weekly award this fall joining rookie Yahya Nure (South Portland, Maine/Deering), who was picked as the Rookie of the Week on September 3, as recipients.
Competing at the State of Maine Championships held at Bowdoin College this past weekend, Meier was the Huskies first finisher crossing the finish line in eighth place overall. The second-year runner covered the 8,000-meter (4.97 miles) course in a time of 26 minutes, 18.2 seconds. He improved upon his 2017 finish by five positions and trimmed more than 16 seconds off his time.
Bowdoin took the team and individual titles. The Polar Bears scored a total 29 points to outdistance runner-up Bates College among the field of 12 teams. Bates scored 56 points, followed by Colby College with 70 and USM with 95.
The Huskies are back in action on October 13 traveling to New Britain, Connecticut, to compete in the Connecticut College Invitational.
