GORHAM, Maine –Sophomore Courtney Davis (Woburn, Mass.) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies' softball team has been named to the 2016 National Fastpitch Coaches' Association Division III All-New England Region Third Team.  Davis, who became is the first University of Southern Maine softball player to earn all-region honors in 2015 since her older sister Katie Davis (Woburn, Mass.) earned the accolade during her freshman year in 2010, is now a two-time all-region selection for the Huskies.   

Davis' all-region accolades are the latest for the Huskies' sophomore catcher who was also selected first team All-Little East Conference.  Davis is a two-time All-LEC performer, earning 2015 Little East Conference Rookie of the Year honors and first team all-conference as a freshman. 

"Courtney made an immediate impact for us as a freshman and has continued to develop her athletic abilities and leadership," said fourth-year head coach Sarah Jamo, the 2015 Little East Conference Coach of the Year.  "She had a tremendous sophomore season and was an excellent mentor and leader for our young pitching staff.  Offensively she was tremendous for us with several clutch hits. I am excited to see her continue to grow and develop over her career.  She is a fantastic defensive catcher and is an offensive leader.  She plays with determination and with intelligence.  "

Davis led the Huskies and was among the LEC leaders in numerous statistical categories. Davis played and started all 38 games for the Huskies hitting a team-leading .402 with 53 hits, including 13 doubles, three triples and two home runs.  Davis' 30 RBIs also led the Huskies and had a .377 on-base percentage and a .450 slugging percentage.  Defensively, Davis helped led the Huskies' infield, making 207 put outs and 30 assists for a .979 fielding percentage.  Exhibiting a solid arm, Davis caught 10 runners attempting stolen bases.  In the LEC, Davis finished first in hits (53), first in doubles (13), fifth in RBI (39), third in total bases (85), third in batting average (.402), and second in runners caught stealing (10).

In two seasons with Southern Maine, Davis is hitting .410 with 114 hits, including 21 doubles, five triples, six home runs and 69 RBI.  She has a career .451 on-base percentage and a .591 slugging percentage. She is presently 17th in career hits and doubles, and is 11th in RBI.

Southern Maine finished its 2016 season with a 23-14-1 record (.644), marking the program's highest winning percentage in over a decade.  The Huskies' 8-6 record in Little East Conference play earned them a third place finish in the LEC and third seed in the LEC tournament. The 8-6 record is Southern Maine's best finish in the LEC since 2007 when the Huskies' had an identical 8-6 record.
