GORHAM, Maine – Freshman Hannah Kenney (Oxford, Maine/Oxford Hills) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies softball team has been named the Little East Conference Rookie of the Week for the period ending March 18, 2018. It is the first weekly honor of the season for the Huskies' softball team who just completed their season-opening spring break trip to Florida.
Playing in 11 of the Huskies' 12 games in Florida, Kenney had an impressive intercollegiate debut, quickly moving into Southern Maine's starting lineup playing both outfield and first base. Kenney hit a team-leading .440 over 10 games (11-for-25) with a double, two home runs, nine RBI and seven run scored in nine games she played in during the week. Highlights of Kenney's week included a 3-for-4 effort at the plate in a 14-4 (5 inning) win over Rutgers-Newark with one RBI and two runs scored for her first multiple hit effort. Against Bethel, Kenney went 1-for-3 at the plate and connected on her first intercollegiate homerun, and in an 11-5 win over Washington & Jefferson, Kenney went 3-for-4 at the plate again, driving in four runs and knocking out her second homerun of the season.
Through 11 games for Southern Maine, Kenney is batting a solid .355 (11-for-31) with nine RBI, eight runs scored. She has a double and two homeruns for a .581 slugging percentage. In the field, Kenney has a .943 fielding percentage with 32 putouts and one assist in 35 chances.
