Huskies’ Alexis Brown Named Little East Conference Pitcher of the Week

 

GORHAM, Maine – Junior Alexis Brown (Malden, Mass.) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies' softball team has been named the Little East Conference Pitcher of the Week for the week ending Sunday, April 28. 

Brown was outstanding in all areas of the game pacing Southern Maine to a 5-1 week, including a 3-1 mark against Little East Conference opponents. Finishing the week with a 3-0 mark in the circle (2-0 against LEC opponents), Brown had a 0.36 earned run average allowing just one earned run over 19.1 innings of work.  She held her opponents from Colby, UMass Boston and Western Connecticut to just 12 combined hits. 

In an 8-1 non-conference win over Colby, scattered four hits and three walks over 5.1 innings of work, while striking out four.  Defeating UMass Boston 8-3 to complete the LEC sweep of the Beacons, Brown went the distance, striking out six, and holding UMD to just four singles and five walks without giving up an earned run.   In a win over Western Connecticut on the road, Brown turned in another four-hitter, all singles, to win 2-1. Brown struck out five in the victory.  In her two conference wins, Brown held the Colonials and Beacons to an anemic .160 batting average and for the three games her opponents were just 13-for-76 (.171). 

            Brown helped her own cause at the plate, finishing the week hitting .450 (9-for-20) with five RBI and a run scored.  In the Huskies' 2-1 win at WestConn, Brown was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and she went 1-for-3 with 2 RBI in the WestConn opener while playing first base.  In USM's sweep of UMass Boston, Brown was 3-for-7 with an RBI, while she went 3-for-7 at Colby with an RBI.  

With her three wins over the week, Brown now has 22 for her career and is 10th in the Husky career records. 

Southern Maine is 21-16 overall, and 8-8 in the Little East Conference.  The Huskies have locked up the fourth-seed in the Little East Conference tournament and will begin championship play on May 2.
