GORHAM, Maine – For the second consecutive week, and third time this season the tandem of University of Southern Maine Huskies' women's basketball player junior Jackie Luckhardt (Londonderry, N.H.) and freshman Victoria Harris (Altus, Okla./Lewiston) have each earned honor roll recognition from the Maine Women's Basketball Coaches Association (MWBCA).
Earning honor roll recognition for the fifth time this season, Harris has continued to provide the Huskies with outstanding play off of the bench. In a 1-1 week, Harris helped Southern Maine to a 64-56 win over Eastern Connecticut State with a career-best 14 points on 6-for-11 shooting. Harris scored seven on her 14 in the Huskies' pivotal fourth quarter, including four straight points with the score tied at 50 to secure the lead for good for USM. She added five rebounds, a block, a steal and an assist in the game. In a loss to No. 1 Bowdoin, Harris tied for team-high scoring honors with 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting, adding two blocks, a steal and a pair of rebounds. The Huskies center is averaging 8.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.4 blocked shots per game while shooting an outstanding 56.6 percent from the field. Harris has also earned MWBCA Rookie of the Week and New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) Rookie of the Week honors this season.
Luckhardt continues to fill up the box score for the Huskies. In the road win at Eastern Connecticut, Luckhardt had a team-high 15 points and eight rebounds, adding five assists and four steals. Against top-ranked Bowdoin, Luckhardt matched Harris for team-high scoring honors with 11 points. Luckhardt is averaging 9.8 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 3.5 steals per game for the Huskies, and is shooting a career-best 45.5 percent from the field.
Southern Maine returns to action on Wednesday (5:30 p.m.) at UMass Boston in a Little East Conference game.
