GORHAM, Maine – Freshman Victoria Harris (Altus, Okla./Lewiston) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies women's basketball team has been named the Little East Conference women's basketball Rookie of the Week for the week ending February 3. A two-time Maine Women's Basketball Coaches' Association Rookie of the Week and previous New England Women's Basketball Association Rookie of the Week, Harris is earning conference honors for the first time this season.
Harris averaged 14.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.0 blocked shots over a pair of game for the Huskies, leading USM in scoring and rebounding in games versus Colby and LEC opponent UMass Boston. In the first start of her career, Harris had a career-best 18 points and snagged eight boards against the Mules. Against UMass Boston, Harris had 11 points, eight rebounds, two steals and two blocked shots.
Harris, who is fifth in the Little East Conference in field goal percentage at 50.0 (69-for-138), is averaging 8.8 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.1 blocked shots and 1.0 steals per game in a reserve role for the Huskies. The 5-11 center is presently fifth in blocked shots in the LEC with 22, and has scored in double-figures in eight games, including four of her last five. She has career and season-highs of 18 points (Colby, January 29); nine rebounds, three steals (University of New England, November 14); and four blocked shots (UMass Dartmouth; November 28).
Southern Maine hosts Eastern Connecticut on Wednesday (5:30 p.m.) in a Little East Conference game.
