HARTFORD, Conn. -- Senior goaltender Alexa Pujol (New Canaan, Conn.) stopped all 24 shots she faced to backstop the Trinity College Bantams to a 3-0 shutout of the visiting University of Southern Maine Huskies in non-conference women's ice hockey action Saturday afternoon on the Williams Rink at the Koeppel Community Sports Center.
The victory gave the Bantams a sweep of the teams' two-game weekend series, and extended their unbeaten string to three games (2-0-1). The Bantams improved their overall record to 4-3-3. The Huskies slipped to 6-5 overall.
Pujol earned her second shutout of the season, and 11th of her career, and lifted her record to 2-1-1 with the victory.
Senior Emily Kleidon (Oakdale, Minn.) gave Pujol the only goal she would need netting a power-play goal at 4:04 of the opening period. Sophomores Shelby Labe (Pinebrook, N.J.) and Cheeky Keer (Princeton, N.J.) picked up the assists.
Pujol and USM sophomore goalie Nia Kelly (Cary, N.C.) turned aside every shot from there to keep the game at 1-0 going into the third period. Kelly finished the game with 22 saves.
Senior Lauren Glynn (Arlington, Mass.) tallied an insurance marker at 7:46 of the final period off a pass from sophomore Brooke Heron (South Salem, N.Y.). Junior Lucy Robinson (Toronto, Ontario) finished off the scoring adding another power-play goal at 12:28 from Glynn and senior Abby Ostrom (Carlisle, Mass.).
Southern Maine returns home to host Division One independent Sacred Heart University for a two-game series on Tuesday and Wednesday. The games start at 3:00 p.m. both days. Trinity returns to action next weekend hosting NESCAC rival Williams College for a two-game set on Friday (7:30 p.m.) and Saturday (4:00 p.m.).
