RUTLAND, Vt. -- Sophomore Nicole Jensen (Hellerup, Denmark) scored the only goal of the game at 2:48 of the first period and the third-seeded Castleton State College Spartans made it stand up to defeat the sixth-seeded University of Southern Maine Huskies 1-0 in an ECAC Women's East quarterfinal round game Saturday night at Spartan Arena.

The Spartans advance to next weekend's the semifinal round against second-seeded Salve Regina University, and improved to 15-9-2 overall.  The Huskies concluded their season 10-15-1.

Junior goalie Paula Stephens (Seattle, Wash.) made Jensen's 13th goal of the season stand up stopping 14 shots for her fourth shutout of the season.

Jensen scored the lone goal after taking a feed from freshman Lisa Kilroy (Leominster, Mass.) and skating in against USM junior goalie Liz Bergstrom (Chanhassen, Minn.).  Bergstrom got a piece of Jensen's shot, but the puck carried up over her shoulder and into the goal.  Rookie Hannah Wright (Arlington, Mass.) picked up the second assist.

Bergstrom kept the Huskies in the game making 34 saves.
