GORHAM, Maine - Rookie Shannon Colbert (Manomet, Mass.) scored the lone goal and sophomore goalie Whitney Padgett (Eden Prairie, Minn.) stopped 14 shots as the University of Southern Maine Huskies shut out the visiting Post University Eagles 1-0 in a non-conference women's ice hockey game Saturday afternoon at the USM Ice Arena.

The win snapped a three-game losing skid for the Huskies and improved their overall record to 3-6-0.  The Eagles, who tied New England College on Friday, are winless in their last seven games and fell to 1-8-2 overall.

Colbert's first collegiate goal, coming on the power play, came in the latter stages of the first period when she potted the rebound of a shot by sophomore Meghan Concannon (Raynham, Mass.).  Concannon tried to stuff a wrap-around shot by Post rookie goalie Ashlynn Neurauter (Kamloops, B.C.) at the right post, but was thwarted.  Colbert popped the rebound up over Neurauter's shoulder and into the net for what proved to be the only goal of the game.

Padgett earned her second shutout of the season, and the third of her career, stopping everything Post fired her way.  The second-year goalie had to make only one stop in the opening period, but had to be sharp over the final two periods as the Eagles found their legs after the quick turnaround of playing Friday night, then early Saturday afternoon.

The Huskies finished the game with a 28-14 advantage in shots on goal, and converted 1 of 4 power plays.  Neurauter finished the game with 27 saves before being lifted for the extra attacker with 57 seconds remaining.

The Eagles had a big chance early in the third period going on a five-minute power play, but were unable to put the puck by Padgett.

Southern Maine travels to Bowdoin College on Tuesday (7:00 p.m.) for a non-conference game.  Post plays at home on Friday (7:00 p.m.) against Nichols College.
