Colby Blanks Southern Maine 5-0

            GORHAM, Maine -- Sophomores Lily von Stade (Norwalk, Conn.) and Lauren Klein (Minnetonka, Minn.) each scored two goals to lead the visiting Colby College Mules to a 5-0 non-conference victory over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in women's ice hockey action Tuesday at the USM Ice Arena.

            The win extends the Mules unbeaten streak to seven games (4-0-3) and improved their record to 6-2-3 overall.  The Huskies slip to 4-7-4 with their second straight loss.

            von Stade and Klein scored within a span of 2:11 in the first period to stake the visitors to a 2-0 lead.  von Stade converted from junior Tess Dupre (Dover, Mass.) at 13:26.  Klein scored from in close on the power play off assists from sophomore Anna Cosentino (Brentwood, N.H.) and rookie Sadie Kuhn (Woodstock, Vt.) at 15:37.

            The Mules added three more markers in the middle period against the short-handed Huskies.  von Stade scored her second of the game in the opening minute of play from Dupre and junior Izzy Tegtmeyer (Portland, Ore.).  Junior Cassidy Holzer (Minneapolis, Minn.) scored her first of the season redirecting a shot from von Stade midway through the session.  Klein tallied the final goal with less than three minutes to play in the frame, set up again by Cosentino and Kuhn.

            Colby rookie goalie Nina Prüenster (Salzburg, Austria) recorded 14 saves to collect her first career shutout.  USM senior Britney Evangelista (North Smithfield, R.I.) stopped 42 shots in 56:46 of action.  Junior Whitney Padgett (Eden Prairie, Minn.) made two saves in a brief relief appearance in the second period while Evangelista was getting an equipment repair.

            Southern Maine has a non-conference home-and-home series this weekend with Becker College.  USM travels to Becker on Friday (4:45 p.m.) and returns home for a Saturday matinee (1 p.m.).  Colby hits the road for a two-game NESCAC series at Williams College
