Fourth-Seeded USM Women to Host Johnson & Wales in NEHC Quarterfinals
Huskies and Wildcats Face Off Saturday (4 p.m.)

            GORHAM, Maine -- The New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) announced the quarterfinal round pairings Sunday morning for the 2019 NEHC Women's Ice Hockey Championship Tournament that begins this coming Saturday (February 16).  The University of Southern Maine will be the fourth seed and host fifth-seeded Johnson and Wales University in a quarterfinal round game starting at 4 p.m. at the USM Ice Arena.

            The Huskies finished the 2018-19 regular season with a 9-10-6 overall mark and a 6-6-4 record in NEHC play.  The Wildcats, in their first season as an NEHC member, finished with a 9-13-3 overall mark and a 7-8-1 league record.  The Huskies swept the teams regular season home-and-home series, wining 4-1 at home on November 2 and 2-1 at JWU on January 18.

            The other three quarterfinal round games feature top-seeded and defending champion Norwich University (18-5-2; 15-0-1) hosting eight-seeded Salem State University (6-14-4; 3-10-3), second-seeded Suffolk University (15-8-2; 10-4-2) will play at home against the seventh seed, the University of Massachusetts Boston (9-14-2; 5-9-2), and sixth-seeded Plymouth State University (7-14-4; 5-7-4) travels to third-seeded Castleton University (9-13-3; 9-5-2).

            The four quarterfinal round winners will advance to the semifinals on February 23.  The highest remaining seed will host the lowest remaining seed in one game with the other two remaining teams facing off at the higher seed.

            The NEHC championship game will be played March 2 at the highest remaining seed.
