Evangelista Named NEHC Goaltender of the Week
GORHAM, Maine -- For the fourth time this season, the New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) has selected University of Southern Maine senior goalie Britney Evangelista (North Smithfield, R.I.) as the Goaltender of the Week. The conference office made the announcement this afternoon.
In two games last week, Evangelista complied a 2-0 record with a 1.00 goals against average and a .962 save percentage. Evangelista previously was named NEHC Goaltender of the Week on October 29, November 5 and December 10. During her collegiate career, Evangelista has been picked as the league's Goaltender of the Week six times.
The senior netminder recorded 34 saves in the Huskies' 2-0 shutout of Plymouth State University on Tuesday, then came back to make 17 saves in a 3-2 win over New England College that clinched the final home ice berth in the upcoming playoffs. Evangelista's shutout over Plymouth State was her sixth career shutout.
Heading into this weekend's NEHC quarterfinal round playoff game at home against Johnson and Wales University, Evangelista has compiled a 1.87 goals against average with a .945 save percentage and 5-3-6 record in 14 games this season.
Southern Maine hosts Johnson and Wales at the USM Ice Arena on Saturday. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
