GORHAM, Maine – Recently named the D3Wrestle.Com Wrestler of the Week after upending the defending national champion 6-4 SV at the Roger Williams Invite, earning the tournament's Most Outstanding Wrestler accolade, University of Southern Maine Huskies' junior Peter Del Gallo (Gardiner, Maine) has been ranked the top wrestler in Division III 125-pound weight division by D3Wrestle.com.  Del Gallo is also ranked no. 2 by IntermatWrestle.com. It is the first time in his dominant career on the mats that Del Gallo has achieve the number one national ranking. 

Entering the 2018-2019 season with an outstanding career record of 74-6, Del Gallo started the year ranked fifth nationally by Intermatwrestle.com and fourth by D3wrestle.com.  After a win at the RWU Invitational, and a 3-0 day at the Doug Parker Invitational before yielding a medical forfeit in the championship match, Del Gallo's quest for a national title is on the right track.  

A 2018 NCAA Division III National Qualifier, Del Gallo finished second at the 2018 NCAA Division Northeast Regional Championship to earn his entry into the National Championship field, and earned all-region status for the second time in his career.  Del Gallo achieved a national ranking as high as two as a sophomore.  Already a highly decorated student-athlete, Del Gallo earned 2017 New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Rookie of the Year honors, and is a two-time All-NEWA Wrestler. Majoring in Exercise Science, Del Gallo recently earned William B. Wise Scholar-Athlete honors, and is a two-time NEWA All-Academic team selection. 

Southern Maine is off for the Thanksgiving Break, and returns to action on Saturday, December 1 (10:00 a.m.) hosting its annual Ted Reese Invitational.
