GORHAM, Maine – Heading towards championship week, junior Peter Del Gallo (Gardiner, Maine) remains atop the NCAA Division III National Rankings at 125 pounds.  Del Gallo took over the top spot in November after defeating the 2018 defending national champion Jay Albis of Johnson and Wales University 6-4 in sudden victory.  With a 15-1 record this season, Del Gallo is ranked no. 1 in both the d3wrestle.com and intermatwrestle.com national polls.

Del Gallo is not the only Husky making waves in the national scene, as he is presently joined by Southern Maine sophomore Bradley Beaulieu (Waterboro, Maine/Marshwood).  Beaulieu, who competes for the Huskies at 133-pounds, is listed as a contender just outside of the top 10 by d3wrestle.com.  Beaulieu is 16-6 overall and has won his seven matches consecutively with his last loss coming at the hands of third-ranked Bobby Jordan of Johnson & Wales (11-4) on January 13.

After Southern Maine's competition at the Wesleyan Tri-Match this weekend, the Huskies will begin preparing for the 2019 NCAA Division III Northeast Regional Championship Tournament. Top three finishers from each weight division will qualify for the NCAA National Championship.  Del Gallo is a 2018 NCAA Division III National Qualifier, earning his bid after finishing second at the 2018 regional championship. Del Gallo, a two-time All-NEWA selection and the 2017 NEWA Rookie of the Year, is a two-time All-Region wrestler. Beaulieu is in his first season with the Huskies after transferring from Division I Old Dominion University.
