GORHAM, Maine – Junior Ciera Berthiaume (Windham, Maine) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies' women's soccer team has been named the Little East Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending September 9, 2018. Berthiaume is the second USM women's soccer player to earn weekly recognition from the conference, joining teammate freshman Alexandria Allain (Carmel, Maine/Hermon) who earned LEC Rookie of the Week honors to open the season.
Leading the Huskies to a 2-0 week, Berthiaume combined for three goals and two assists in wins over Curry College (3-2) and Becker (3-0). On the road at Curry, Berthiaume scored a goal and assisted on two to help Southern Maine to the come-from-behind victory. Berthiaume's goal in the 73rd minute versus the Colonels knotted the game up at 2-2. Berthiaume assisted on the Huskies' game-winner finding classmate Adela Kalilwa (Lewiston, Maine) for the go-head goal in the 86th minute. At home against Becker, Berthiaume scored two of the Huskies' three goals in a 3-0 shut out over the Hawks. Scoring early on a brilliant individual effort, Berthiaume's first goa of the game went for the game-winner. Berthiaume's second goal of the game came in the 79th for the 3-0 final.
Through four games this season, Berthiaume has four goals and five assists for 13 points. The Huskies' are 4-0 to kick off their 2018 season, marking the program's first time in 29 seasons that it has won its first four games. The last time a Huskies' women's soccer program was 4-0 through four games was during the 1989 season.
The Huskies' take on non-conference opponent Salem State on Tuesday (4:00 p.m.) at home on Hannaford Field.
