GORHAM, Maine – Freshman Alexandria Allain (Carmel, Maine/Hermon) and senior Taylor Canastra (Fairhaven, Mass) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies' women's soccer team each earned weekly accolades from the Little East Conference following a 2-0-0 week in conference action. Canastra is this week's LEC Goalkeeper of the Week, while Allain earned the LEC's Rookie of the Week honor. Both student-athletes are receiving the award for the second time this season.
Earning her 10th win of the season, Canastra posted a pair of clean sheets as Southern Maine defeated Keene State 3-0 on the road and UMass Dartmouth 1-0 at home to help lift the Huskies to a 4-2 record in league play. Leading the Little East Conference in save percentage (.846), Canastra made a pair of saves in each victory to earn her sixth and seventh shutouts of the season. Canastra's seven wins by shutout also lead the Little East.
Factoring in the scoring of three of the Huskies' four goals during their two-win week, Allain now has six goals and six assist for 18 points this season. Allain assisted on a pair of goals in USM's 3-0 win at Keene State – the program's first win over the Owl's since 2005. In USM's 1-0 win versus UMass Dartmouth, Allain scored the only goal of the match to record her first intercollegiate game-winner. Allain's six assists are in a three-way tie for the LEC lead, while her 18 points are fifth in the conference.
Southern Maine, 11-3 overall and 4-2 in the conference, hosts Maine Maritime Academy in a non-conference game on Tuesday (3:30 p.m.).
