Colby Earns Huskies' Lone Point
BANGOR, Maine -- Freshman Mackenzie Colby (Southport, Maine/Boothbay Region) earned the lone point for the University of Southern Maine women's tennis team Wednesday in an 8-1 non-conference loss against Husson University at Bangor High School.
The Eagles closed the regular season with their second straight win and a 7-2 overall record. The Huskies dropped their third straight match to slide to 1-8 on the season.
Colby knocked off senior Katie Pratt (Rockport, Maine/Camden Hills Regional) 8-1 at number singles to pick up her third win of the season, and the Huskies' lone point.
Husson swept the three doubles matches by identical 8-3 scores to take a 3-0 lead, and then took five of six singles points to claim the victory. Rookie Marisa Brown (Lincoln, R.I.) and senior Kelsey Pelletier (Fort Kent, Maine) combined for three points with their win at number three doubles, and singles wins at number five and four respectively.
The Huskies will play their final home match of the fall season this Saturday (1:00 p.m.) hosting Salem State University in a Little East Conference match at Gorham High School. The Eagles will play Johnson State College in a semifinal round match of the North Eastern Athletic Conference Championship Tournament on Saturday (10:00 a.m.).
