Smith Named USM Women's Tennis Team Captain
GORHAM, Maine -- For the second straight year, senior Margaret Smith (Farmingdale, Maine/Gardiner Area) has been named captain for the University of Southern Maine women's tennis team. Second-year head coach Eric Haase '94 made the announcement.
Smith and her teammates opened the 2018 season defeating Thomas College 9-0 on August 31.
Now in her fourth season playing for the Huskies, Smith is one of seven players returning from last year's squad. In her first three seasons, Smith has compiled a 5-20 career mark in singles matches and a 3-21 record in doubles.
An outstanding student in the classroom majoring in marketing, Smith is a three-time recipient of the USM athletic department's William B. Wise Scholar-Athlete Award, and a two-time Little East Conference Fall All-Academic team honoree.
The Huskies return to the courts tomorrow (1:00 p.m.) for their Little East Conference opener at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.
