Huskies Head to Brandeis on Saturday for the Reggie Poyau Invitational
GORHAM, Maine -- The Little East Conference announced this afternoon that four members of the University of Southern Maine women's track and field team have been selected for weekly recognition for the week ending January 6.
Sophomore Sydney Sirois (Greene, Maine/St. Dominic) was named the Track Athlete of the Week for the first time, and junior Adela Kalilwa (Lewiston, Maine) is the recipient of the Field Athlete of the Week for the second straight week. Freshmen Ottilie McPhail (Bradford, Maine/Central) and Mykayla Hoggard (Bangor, Maine) were tabbed as the Rookie Track Athlete of the Week and Rookie Field Athlete of the Week respectively.
Competing at the USM Open II meet on Saturday, Sirois won the 3,000 meters with a time of 11 minutes, 13.06 seconds. Kalilwa swept the horizontal jumps winning the long jump with season-best leap of 5.23 meters (17-2) and the triple jump with a mark of 11.36 meters (37-3 ¼). Kalilwa's winning long jump marked moved her up to 36th nationally (and tied for third in New England) in the event.
McPhail won the 400 meters with a time of 1:04.52, and took third in the 200 meters crossing the finish line in 28.63. Hoggard finished second in the long jump with a mark of 5.06 meters (16-7 ¼). Her mark met New England Division III Championships qualifying standard in the long jump, and is tied for seventh in New England. Hoggard also won the 55-meter dash in a time of 7.61 seconds.
The Huskies head to Waltham, Mass., this Saturday to compete at the annual Reggie Poyau Invitational hosted by Brandeis University.
