Kalilwa Selected as LEC Field Athlete of the Week
GORHAM, Maine -- For the second straight week, and the fourth time this indoor season, the Little East Conference has selected University of Southern Maine junior Adela Kalilwa (Lewiston, Maine) as its Field Athlete of the Week for women's track and field.
This past week, Kalilwa swept the horizontal jumps at the Maine State Indoor Track and Field Championships held at Bowdoin College. She won the long jump with a leap of 5.32 meters (17-5 ½), then returned to take the top spot in the triple jump with a mark of 11.48 meters (37-8). Both marks were season bests for Kalilwa. The two state titles were the first of her collegiate career.
On the track, Kalilwa also posted a fourth-place finish in the 200 meters with a season-best time of 26.75 seconds. That time meets the qualifying standard for the New England Division III Championships later this month.
Kalilwa was previously the LEC's pick for Field Athlete of the Week on December 17, January 5 and January 28. She has now received the honor six times in her career.
Bates College edged host Bowdoin College, 237-231, to take the team title for the sixth straight year. Colby College was third with 104.50 points followed by USM with 95.50.
Southern Maine is back in competition this Saturday with competitors headed to the David Hemery Invitational at Boston University and the Gordon Kelly Invitational at M.I.T.
