Kalilwa Named Little East Field Athlete of the Week
GORHAM, Maine -- The Little East Conference announced today that University of Southern Maine junior track and field standout Adela Kalilwa (Lewiston, Maine) has been selected as the women's Field Athlete of the Week for the fifth time this season. This is the final weekly awards for the 2018-19 indoor campaign.
Competing at the New England Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships held this past weekend at Bowdoin College, Kalilwa, the top seed in the triple jump, took the number one spot on the podium with her season-best leap of 11.73 meters (38-6) to receive her first individual title. Kalilwa's winning jump was just two centimeters shy of her school record mark. Kalilwa won her first New England Division III title as a member of the Huskies' winning 4 x 200-meter relay in 2018.
In addition to her triple jump title, Kalilwa finished third in the long jump with a jump of 5.46 meters (17-11) to earn Division III All-New England honors in that event as well.
According to the latest TFRRS performance list, Kalilwa ranks 10th nationally among Division III competitors in the triple jump.
Williams College won the team title for the second straight year with 140 points. M.I.T. was runner-up with 87.50 points, followed by Tufts University with 67, Middlebury College with 57 and Bowdoin with 52. Southern Maine earned 17 points to finish 15th among the 26 teams that scored in the meet.
Selected USM competitors will compete this Saturday at the Tufts Last Chance Meet in a final bid to qualify for the 2019 NCAA Division III National Championships.
