Kalilwa Sets School Record in Triple Jump at Tufts
MEDFORD, Mass. -- University of Southern Maine junior Adela Kalilwa (Lewiston, Maine) broke her own indoor school record in the triple jump Saturday during the final day of regular-season competition at the Tufts National Qualifying Meet.
Kalilwa posted a mark of 11.77 meters (38-7 1/2) on her second attempt during the preliminary round to break her previous record distance of 11.75 meters (38-6 ¾). Kalilwa finished second in the event when Nicole Weenink of Eastern College posted a mark of 11.97 meters (39-3 ¼) on her sixth and final attempt.
Kalilwa also had a runner-up finish in the long jump with a leap of 5.42 meters (17-9 ½).
The NCAA will announce its final descending order lists for the national championships on Sunday at 9 a.m. Coaches must declare events for athletes by 1 p.m. The top 20 individuals declared for each event will head to the NCAA Division III National Championships next weekend (March 8-9) at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston. At press time, Kalilwa was ranked 13th in the triple jump.
