Junior Honored in the Long Jump and Triple Jump
GORHAM, Maine -- For the second straight indoor track and field season, University of Southern Maine junior Adela Kalilwa (Lewiston, Maine) has received All-Region honors from the United States Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Kalilwa was recognized in two events for the 2018-19 indoor season - the long jump and the triple jump. She earned All-Region honors in the triple jump for the second straight year, and the All-Region citation in the long jump was her first.
Kalilwa finished the indoor season ranked fourth in long jump and first in the triple jump in the New England Region. In the long jump, Kalilwa had a season-best mark of 5.52 meters (18-1 ½) at the New England Alliance/Little East Conference Championships in February. At the final meet of the regular season, the Tufts National Qualifying Meet, Kalilwa broke her school record in the triple jump posting the top mark in the region with a jump of 11.77 meters (38-7 ½).
The top-5 individuals in each event from each region earned All-Region distinction, in addition to each member of the region's top-3 relay teams. The regions used for this award – Atlantic, Central, Great Lakes, Mideast, Midwest, New England, South/Southeast and West – match those used during the cross country season.
