USM Wins Seven Events at Bowdoin Outdoor Invitational
BRUNSWICK, Maine -- The University of Southern Maine women's track and field team captured seven events Friday at the Bowdoin Outdoor Invitational held at the Magee-Samuelson Track. The non-team-scoring event was scheduled this week following the cancellation of the Panther Spring Invitational at Middlebury College.
Senior Rachel Ingram (Winthrop, Maine) won the two horizontal jumps to lead the Huskies' efforts. Ingram took the long jump with a jump of 5.00 meters (16-5) and triple jump with a season best mark of 10.85 meters (35-7 ¼).
Other individual winners for USM included sophomore Jhanel Potts (Boston, Mass./Concord-Carlisle) in the 100-meter dash (12.59), freshman Alison Cote (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) in the 400 meters (1;13.07), sophomore Samantha Dow (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) in the 100-meter hurdles (16.78), senior Tiia Kand (Abbot, Maine/Piscataquis) in the high jump (1.44m/4-8 ¾), and freshman Edie Christian (Scarborough, Maine) in the pole vault (2.95m/9-8).
Coming home with runner-up finishes were freshman Sarina Teung (Sanford, Maine) in the 200 meters (28.47), classmate Sydney Sirois (Greene, Maine/St. Dominic) in the 5,000 meters (21:04.22), sophomore Ashley Joyner (Auburn, Maine/Granbury (Texas)) in the 400-meter hurdles (1:13.00) and triple jump (10.20m/33-5 ¾), sophomore Samantha Round (Veazie, Maine/Orono) in the pole vault (2.95m/9-8), and freshman Elena Grace (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) in the hammer throw (36.82m/120-10) and the javelin (30.96m/101-7).
Southern Maine returns to action next weekend (April 20-21) at the annual Aloha Relays at Bowdoin.
