Junior Swept the Horizontal Jumps at the Bowdoin Outdoor Invitational
GORHAM, Maine -- For the second time during the 2019 outdoor track and field season, the Little East Conference has selected University of Southern Maine junior Adela Kalilwa (Lewiston, Maine) as its women's Field Athlete of the Week. This is the third time in Kalilwa's collegiate career that she has been picked as the Field Athlete of the Week.
Competing this past weekend at the Bowdoin Outdoor Invitational, Kalilwa swept the horizonal jumps. Kalilwa won the long jump with a career-best jump of 5.65 meters (18-6½). She also took top spot in the triple jump with a season-best mark of 11.79 meters (38-8¼).
Kalilwa also won the 100-meter dash with her time of 12.80 seconds. That time meets the qualifying standard for next month's the New England Division III Championships.
Two meets into the 2019 outdoor season, Kalilwa currently ranks first in both jumping events in the New England Region. Nationally she ranks sixth in the long jump and fourth in the triple jump.
Paced by Kalilwa's three first-place finishes and a total of 18 top three results, the Huskies won the meet with 104 points. Host Bowdoin was runner-up with 98 points followed by Colby College with 60.
The Huskies will travel this coming Saturday to Southern New Hampshire University for the Penmen Relays.
