Kalilwa Named LEC Field Athlete of the Week for the Third Time
GORHAM, Maine -- For the third time in the 2019 outdoor track and field campaign, the Little East Conference has selected University of Southern Maine junior Adela Kalilwa (Lewiston, Maine) as its women's Field Athlete of the Week. This is the fourth time in Kalilwa's collegiate career that she has been picked as the LEC Field Athlete of the Week.
Competing this past weekend at the Aloha Relays held at Bates College, Kalilwa swept the horizonal jumps. Kalilwa won the long jump with a jump of 5.63 meters (18-5¾). She also took the top spot in the triple jump with a season-best mark of 11.89 meters (39-0¼).
On the track, Kalilwa also placed third in the 100-meter dash with her time of 12.69 seconds in the finals. She ran a season-best time of 12.59 in the prelims. That time meets the qualifying standard for next month's the New England Division III Championships.
Four meets into the Huskies' 2019 outdoor season, Kalilwa currently ranks first in the triple jump and second in the long jump in the New England Region. Nationally she is tied for 11th in the long jump and third in the triple jump.
Paced by Kalilwa's two first-place finishes and 26 individual points, the Huskies finished third among the eight teams competing with 90.50 points. Bowdoin College won the meet with 247.50 points followed by host Bates with 171.
The Huskies will travel this coming Saturday to Fitchburg State University for the annual New England Alliance/Little East Conference Championships.
