Kalilwa Earns Two All-New England Honors
NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- University of Southern Maine women's track and field standout, junior Adela Kalilwa (Lewiston, Maine) earned two NEICAAA All-New England citations this weekend competing at the NEICAAA (New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association) outdoor championships held Friday and Saturday at Southern Connecticut State University.
Kalilwa earned her first citation on Friday when she posted a runner-up finish in the long jump with a mark of 5.80 meters (19-0½). On Saturday, Kalilwa returned to finish seventh in the triple jump with a mark of 11.63 meters (38-2) that came in the third round of jumps.
With her two scoring performances, Kalilwa earned 10 points for the Huskies, good for 24th position among the 41 scoring teams. Dartmouth College took the team title with 107 points. The University of Rhode Island was runner-up with 74, followed by the University of Massachusetts Amherst with 62, Quinnipiac University with 53 and host Southern Connecticut with 42.
Members of the USM team will have one last chance to qualify for the 2019 NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships this coming Thursday at the MIT Last Chance National Qualifier.
